Background:

UNFPA Egypt has established 9 Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) to support women and girls of all nationalities. At present, 7 of these are operated by the Ministry of Youth and Sport (MoYS). UNFPA with implementing partners operates 7 WGSS across 6 governorates in Egypt strategically established in areas identified with dense refugee populations leveraging nationwide networks of MoYS Youth Centres. MoYS-operated WGSS are located in the following locations:

  • Alexandria (1)
  • Aswan (2)
  • Cairo (1)
  • Giza (2)
  • Sharkiya (1)

 

The Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) model in Egypt provides essential services to refugee and host community women and girls, including gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), livelihoods and vocational training, and menstrual hygiene management. WGSS operates as key hubs for protection, empowerment, and inclusion.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide age-appropriate and survivor-centred GBV Case Management services to survivors of GBV and vulnerable women and girls, in line with the Inter Agency GBV Case Management Guidelines.

This includes assessment of survivor’s needs, basic counselling, support to develop and implement an individual case action plan, support to develop and implement a safety plan; and support to access additional services in line with best interests of the individual.

  • Report to the GBV Case Management Team Leader and seek support and approval as appropriate.
  • Provide information on available services and support survivors’ informed choices through direct service provision, referrals, accompaniment.
  • Participate in regular case review meetings and submit monthly reports on case load.
  • Carefully document service provision and maintain case files.
  • Adhere to strict data protection and information-sharing protocols to protect the privacy, confidentiality, and safety of survivors
  • Support any workshop or events organized by UNFPA providing. For instance, support any presentation on success stories as a frontline case worker.

 

 Qualification and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Political Science, Psychology, Humanitarian Action, Development, and any related field of studies.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in GBV case management and/or case management for refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of survivor-centred approach and social protection for vulnerable populations including refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Proficiency in both Arabic (mandatory) and English (highly desirable).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team structure, maintain flexibility, and cope with pressure situations.
  • Ability to work within different cultural environments.
  • Strong gender and cultural awareness and sensitivity.
