Background
UNFPA Egypt has established 9 Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) to support women and girls of all nationalities. At present, 7 of these are operated by the Ministry of Youth and Sport (MoYS). UNFPA with implementing partners operates 7 WGSS across 6 governorates in Egypt strategically established in areas identified with dense refugee populations leveraging nationwide networks of MoYS Youth Centres. MoYS-operated WGSS are located in the following locations:

The Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) model in Egypt provides essential services to refugee and host community women and girls, including gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response, mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS), livelihoods and vocational training, and menstrual hygiene management. WGSS operates as key hubs for protection, empowerment, and inclusion.
Job Purpose:
The Aswan WGSS Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day implementation of Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) in a supervisory and coordinating role. The Coordinator ensures that WGSS are operated in line with survivor-centred approach and humanitarian principles, safeguarding accountability to affected populations.
Under the supervision of the WGSS Project Coordinator, the position will support the project implementation in Aswan from planning to monitoring and reporting ensuring donor compliance requirements. In executing these duties, the position will collaborate closely with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Description of Roles and Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day WGSS operations, providing technical and operational support to field teams in Aswan to ensure effective implementation in line with project work plan, while monitoring compliance with UNFPA programming standards to support quality service delivery throughout the project cycle.
- Manage overall monitoring and reporting cycle, including collecting, compiling, and validating data from WGSS activities, ensuring timely submission of monthly reports of activities.
- Track implementation progress against a project work plan and coordinate across teams to ensure activities are aligned with program objectives and timelines.
- Ensure all WGSS activities and services strictly adhere to UNFPA programming standards, global gender-based violence (GBV) guiding principles (GBViE minimum standards, GBVIMS, inter-agency GBV Case Management guidelines, among others), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure safe and survivor-centered service delivery.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and operational support to the WGSS field team in Aswan, fostering a collaborative and respectful environment.
- Support communication efforts to increase visibility of WGSS activities including success story submissions.
- Conduct regular service mapping exercises to ensure internal and inter-agency referral systems are well functioning and effective.
Qualification Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, public administration, humanitarian action, political science, public health, gender studies, or other related fields.
Knowledge and Experience:
- At least three years professional experience in the field of refugee protection with a focus on GBV and reproductive health and with experience in programme / project management required.
- Practical experience in design, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of humanitarian and/or development projects required.
- Experience of working with government partners in areas related to advocacy and partnership is highly desirable.
- Field experience addressing GBV prevention and response and reproductive health in emergency context is a strong asset.
- Knowledge on refugee protection and humanitarian action is required.
- Knowledge on “Do No Harm” and safeguarding principles including PSEA.
- Strong commitment to the mandate of the UN and UNFPA required.
Languages:
- Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic is essential, with ability to write clearly and concisely and to compose correspondence and documents in both languages.
